Employee Spotlight: T3 Expo Continues to Hire Top Industry Talent

The trade show and events industry is on a roll as reports from the Center for Exhibit Industry Research (CEIR) indicate a bright year for 2016. The industry has already experienced 22 consecutive quarters of growth dating back to 2009.

T3 Expo has been a big driver of that growth, and is continuing to hire the best talent in the industry to supports its clients’ needs all over the world.

Just this month, Tom Malek CEM, an experienced and dynamic solutions provider for trade shows, meetings, conventions and live events joined T3 Expo as vice president of sales. Tom is responsible for generating new business sales nationally and brings 16-years of experience as a meetings and convention professional to T3 Expo.Tom Malek

Tom is actively engaged with professional trade associations including the CEIR, the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), and the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE). He is also a member and the current chair of the New York IAEE Chapter. His contribution to the industry has been recognized with many accolades, including the IAEE Merit Award.

The addition of Tom to the T3 Expo team will help the company continue to build its client base, deliver customer services and create and implement action plans that stand out from others.

“When we founded T3 Expo we had a very clear vision of what we wanted our company to be. Our mission was, and is, to positively redefine the way a general contractor services tradeshows and corporate event clients. We provide our customers fair and transparent pricing, new and exciting products, and deliver these with the very best talent in the industry,” said Nate Derby, founder, T3 Expo. “We sought out Tom because of his experience, positive industry presence and most importantly his core values. Tom has a genuinely positive attitude and natural talent to understand and act on a customer’s needs. His qualities allow him to not only bring in new customers, but keep them happy for a very long time. We are excited to have him on-board and look forward to his success.”

We had a chance to sit down and talk with Tom about his career, the industry and about recently joining T3 Expo’s team.

1.) What is your title and job description?

Tom: I am joining T3 Expo as Vice President of Sales, and it is an honor to work with the company’s Eventgineers!  I will be responsible for growing T3 Expo through new sales, introducing the company to industry associations and event marketers to our innovations, our competitive pricing modules and our fresh perspective on planning and design. The mission is to grow T3 Expo’s existing presence in New York City, while expanding our current markets, providing leadership and vision and, of course, sharing best practices across the company.

2.) What motivated you to join T3 Expo?

Tom: T3 Expo is at the tipping point in its corporate development to be the next global general service contractor.  The company has cutting edge design, innovative products (Have you seen Presta?), and an understanding of exhibitor’s budgets. T3 Expo provides pricing modules to assure that clients’ and exhibitors stay within their budgets and are always happy with the experience.  T3 Expo stands out from other companies in this industry. As a small example of this philosophy that resonates with clients -- T3 Expo doesn’t use standard “grey chairs,” but offers custom furniture solutions at affordable and comparable rates, creating an immediate over-the-top experience for clients and attendees.

I am fascinated by the vision of the founders of T3 Expo. I love the fact that they believe in never doing the same thing over and over again. Instead they challenge the status quo and go outside the lines of innovation and design.

3.) In addition to your passion for the events industry, what are some of your other hobbies and/or things you like to do in your spare time?

Tom: Yes, I do have a passion for this industry! But, it is equally as import for me to focus on my family and spend as much time with them as possible.

I am also always trying to improve my golf game, which needs help! Let's be honest a tremendous amount of help!

And, I will focus on continuing my industry education. I look forward to attending networking events, which are important in the world we live in today.
